Vittles Privacy Policy
In short: Vittles keeps your recipes and photos on your phone. There's no account, and we don't collect, see or sell your information. Nothing leaves your phone unless you choose to send it.
This policy explains how the Vittles app (“Vittles”, “the app”) handles information. Vittles is made by Twenty Millimeter Edge LLC (“we”, “us”).
What we collect
Nothing. Vittles has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We don't run servers that receive your recipes, photos or any other information from the app.
What stays on your phone
Everything you add to Vittles is stored only on your device, including:
- your recipes: titles, ingredients, steps, notes, tags, and whether you've made or starred them;
- photos of your dishes;
- the text read from recipe photos you scan;
- your settings, such as appearance.
Deleting the app deletes this information. Your phone's own backup service (such as iCloud or Android's backup) may include it, under that service's terms.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera and photos: to photograph or choose a recipe to scan, and to add a photo of a dish. Photos are used only for what you choose them for, and stay on your phone.
- Internet: only to download a recipe page, and its photo, when you import a recipe from a link.
Vittles does not use your location, contacts or microphone.
Reading text from photos
When you scan a recipe, the text is read on your phone, using Apple's Vision framework on iPhone and Google's ML Kit on Android. Your photos and their text are not sent to us, Apple or Google for this. On Android, ML Kit may send Google general information about its own performance and usage, and download updates to its reading models; it does not send your photos or the text in them.
Importing recipes from websites
When you import a recipe from a link, your phone connects directly to that website to download the page, like a web browser does. That website receives the usual information any visit sends, such as your internet address, under its own privacy policy. We aren't involved in that connection.
Backups and sharing
Vittles can create a backup file of your recipes, or a file of a single recipe to share with someone. These files are only created when you ask, and go only where you send them (for example Google Drive, email or a message) through your phone's share screen. We never receive them. The person or service you send them to handles them under their own terms.
Children
Vittles is a general-audience app. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Vittles handles information, we'll update this page and its effective date. If a change means information would leave your phone in a way it doesn't today, the app will tell you before it happens.
